The special prizes

The following special prizes were awarded to the finalists:
The engagement at the Lucerne Festival for a debut concert as well as the engagement at the Davos Festival for a Lied concert went to 30-year-old soprano Julia Westendorp, Netherlande.

JULIA WESTENDORP

Dutch soprano Julia Westendorp graduated from the Dutch National Opera Academy of the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, where she received singing lessons from Charlotte Margiono. She earned her undergraduate degree at the Fontys Conservatory with Hanneke Kaasschieter. In addition, she attended masterclasses with Graciela Araya, Roberta Alexander, Ryland Davies und Nelly Miricioiu. Currently she is being coached bij Charlotte Margiono and Peter Nilsson.
She was succesful in several competitions. Most recently she was awarded the Lied prize and the Lucerne Festival Debut prize at the Competition Suisse Ernst Haefliger. She also received a first prize at the national competition of Stichting Jong Muziektalent Nederland and, as a member of the academy of the festival d'Aix en Provence she was awarded the Prix de Amis du Festival.
Julia made her opera début with the Nationale Reisopera as Sylvia in L'isola disabitata by Haydn, which was well received by the press. Roles that followed include Iphigénie in Gluck's Iphigénie en Aulide, Erster Knappe in
Wagner's Parsifal, and Barbarina in Mozarts Le Nozze di Figaro. Julia is also active as a concert singer, performing with renowned orchestras such as the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Camerata Salzburg, the Netherlands
Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, and Het Gelders Orkest. This season Julia will make her debut with de Nederlandse Opera as Nicolette in Prokofiev's The Love for Three Oranges as well as with the Flemish Opera as Pamina in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte.

The prize for a concert at the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad went to baritone Yoon Taek Rhim from Korea.

Der junge Bariton machte seinen Bachelor an der Vocal Music Major Dankook Universität in Südkorea und das Dipolom für Sologesang an der Hochschule für Musik Würzburg bei Prof. Cheryl Studer. Er ist unter anderem Preisträger des Armin Knab Wettbewerbs in Würzburg, des Maria Callas Grand Prix in Athen, des Dorothea-Glatt Förderpreises der Wagnerstimmen in Karlsruhe. Yoon Taek Rhim hat unter anderem in Bad Mergentheim Mendelssohns Vom Himmel hoch gegeben. Er sang am internationalen Festival „Weisse Nächte in St.Peters­burg“ an der Operngala im Marinskii Theater. Unter der Leitung von Krzysztof Penderecki war er in Würzburg und Rzezow in Seven Gates of Jerusalem und an der Bayerischen Kammeroper in Il Barbiere di Siviglia als Figaro zu sehen.


An engagement for a role at the Musik Theater Bern went to 30-years-old young German bass Patrick Zielke.

Der deutsche Bassist erhielt seine Ausbildung an der Hochschule für Musik in Stuttgart bei Dunja Vejzovic und anderen. Meisterkurse bei renommierten Musikerpersönlichkeiten wie etwa Francisco Araiza, Rudolf Piernay und Wolfgang Schöne begleiteten sein Studium. Patrick Zielke war Stipendiat der Richard-Wagner-Gesellschaft. Zu seinem Repertoire gehören Figuren wie Osmin («Die Entführung aus dem Serail»), Leporello und Masetto («Don Giovanni»), Don Magnifico («La Cenerentola»), Il Grand Inquisitor («Don Carlo») und Baron Ochs («Der Rosenkavalier»). Auf verschiedenen Bühnen in Stuttgart interpretierte er Rollen aus Opern wie «A Midsummer Night’s Dream» (Britten), «Zar und Zimmermann» (Lortzing) und «La Bohème» (Puccini). Seit August 2011 gehört Patrick Zielke fest zum Ensemble des Luzerner Theaters, wo er unter anderem als Raimondo («Lucia di Lammermoor») und Kadayif («The Stolen Smells») zu sehen war.

The one-time special price for temporary music went tot he 30-years-old German soprano Johanna Greulich.

JOHANNA GREULICH

The Soprano Johanna Greulich, born 1982 in Hannover, studied opera singing in Frankfurt am Main. 2012 she won a special prize for her performance of New Music at the Concours Suisse Ernst Haefliger in Swizzerland and 2011 she was given a prize for Contemporary Music at the International Hilde Zadek Gesangswettbewerb in Vienna. Johanna Greulich won several prizes such as the 1. prize at the Lenzewski-competition in Frankfurt 2008.
She did a diploma in opera singing in Frankfurt and a specialized Master for Performance in Contemporary Music at Basel. She was able to work with and to learn from well-known composers, singers and conductors such as Beat Furrer, Helmut Lachenmann, Salome Kammer, Helmut Deutsch, Jonathan Harvey, Roland Hayrabedian, Michael Schneider and a lot more.
Johanna Greulich sang various roles in classical, contemporary and baroque operas and operettas.
2010 the soprano sang the leading role in the premiere of the opera „Erwartung und Traumverlust“ by Martin Hiendl conducted by Beat Furrer at the Bockenheimer Depot in Frankfurt and 2011 in the opera „Nacht“ by Georg Friedrich Haas at the Lucerne Festival and Basel. 2012 she performed Franz Léhars „Frühling“ at the theater in Chur.
2013 she will premiere an opera by Ian Wilson in Heilbronn and do performances of the opera „Hypermusic“ by Hector Parrá in Berlin and Basel.
