1st Prize
The winner of the 3rd Concours Suisse Ernst Haefliger was 29-year-old Eung Kwang Lee from South Korea. The 1st Prize was endowed with CHF 10,000.--.
EUNG KWANG LEE
(*1981), baritone, South Korea. Vocal studies at the Music School in Seoul. Concert exams at the Academy of Music Hans-Eisler Berlin. Participated in the Opera Studio Basel in 2008/09. Eung Kwang Lee has won numerous awards, including the Riccardo Zandonai, Alexander Girardi and Ferruccio Tagliavini competitions. His roles until now include, among others; Figaro in Mozart’s “Le nozze di Figaro” at Theater Basel; Petrowitsch Gorjantschikoff in Janácek’s “Totenhaus” and Shaples in Puccini’s “Madame Butterfly.” Ensemble member at the Oper Basel since the 2009/10 season.
2nd Prize
30-year-old German soprano Mandy Fredrich
was awarded the 2nd Prize (CHF 6,000.-).
MANDY FREDRICH
(*1979), soprano, Germany. Studied vocals and vocal pedagogy at the Berlin University of the Arts, with postgraduate studies at the University of Music and Theatre in Leipzig. Mandy Fredrich’s roles until now include, among others: Fiordiligi in Mozart’s “Cosi fan tutte”; and Helena in Britten’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” She performed as the Queen of the Night in Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” at the Landestheater Detmold, at Theater Hof and engaged at the Oper Leipzig for the 2010/11 season. Currently at the Opera Studio Renata Scotto.
3rd Prize
The 3rd Prize went to 27-year-old American Todd Boyce (CHF 4,000.-).
TODD BOYCE
(*1983), baritone, USA. Studied at The Music Academy of the West. His roles until now include, among others: Dandini in Rossini’s “La Cenerentola” at the Opera Studio of the Bayerische Staatsoper; Don Giovanni in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” in the Bad Reichenhaller Philharmonic; Petrucci in Donizetti’s “Lucrezia Borgia” at the Bayerische Staatsoper. Currently at the Opera Studio of the Bayerische Staatsoper.
