Dominique Mentha, Director Theater Lucerne

Dominique Mentha was born in Berne in 1955. After graduation at the Munich Hochschule für Musik with Ernst Haefliger (singing) and August Everding (stage direction) he performed as a singer and stage director in most German speaking countries and in France, He was the founder of the Berne Opera Group in 1982, became opera director in Bremen 1983, in Würzburg 1987, in Münster 1989 to 1991, at the Vienna Volksopera 1992-2003. In 2004 Mentha took over as director of the Lucerne theater where he has since gained wide acclaim. Mentha has realized som 80 opera productions in Switzerland, Germany, Austria and the US. He has lectured at the International Institute for Culture (IKM) and at the Conservatorium in Vienna. |

2001 to 2004 he was artistic planning & casting
director at the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki.
Before he worked with the China National Symphony
Orchestra in Beijing and with the Zurich Chamber
Orchestra in Zurich as artistic administrator.
From 2004 to 2007 he was the
director of the Theatre Bern. Afterwards he was the
manager of the Chamber Orchestra Zurich ZkO, until
he got appointed as the director of the Vlaamse Opera

Marc Piollet, Conductor

Marc Piollet was born in Paris in 1962. He studied conducting and choir directing at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin. Master-classes with John Eliot Gardiner, Michael Gielen and Kurt Masur had a formative influence on his musical development. After early posts as First Kapellmeister in Halle and Kassel he was Music Director of the Volksoper Wien from 2003 until 2005. In 2004 he began his tenure as General Music Director at the Staatstheater Wiesbaden. His highly successful performances there include Wagner's complete Ring and new productions of, amongst others, Don Carlos, Elektra, Falstaff, Faust, Freischütz, Idomeneo, La Bohème, Lulu, Rigoletto, Rosenkavalier, Salome, Tristan und Isolde and Tosca. In the season 2010/2011, his last season as General Music Director in Wiesbaden, he will conduct premieres of Fidelio, Simon Boccanegra and Lohengrin. Concert engagements led him to many renowned orchestras and major operatic guest engagements include Deutsche Oper Berlin, Hamburg State Opera, Opera Cologne, Théâtre Graslin, Staatsoper Stuttgart, Opéra National de Paris, De Vlaamse Opera and the Vianna State Opera. In the season 2010/2011, he conducted new stagings of Carmen in Barcelona and La Bohème (with Anna Netrebko as Mimi) at the Royal Opera in Copenhagen. A DVD of Carmen from Barcelona was released in autumn 2011. In the current season he makes his debut at Teatro Real in Madrid with two productions: in December 2011 he conducts two performances of Massenet's Don Quichotte in a concert version, followed in spring 2012 by the production C(h)oeurs, a collaboration with Belgian choreographer Alain Platel featuring music by Giuseppe Verdi and Richard Wagner; he will tour Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands with C(h)oeurs in June 2012. |

Xavier Zuber wurde 1967 in Basel geboren. Nach seinem Studium in Frankfurt am Main arbeitete er als Opern-, Tanz- und Schauspieldramaturg mit Herbert Wernicke, Joachim Schlömer, Jürgen Gosch, Tim Hopkins, Stanislaus Nordey, Kazuko Watanabe, Lluis Pasqual, Nigel Lowery, Claudia Stavisky, Heinz Spoerli, James Sutherland, Sebastian Nübling, Stefan Herheim, Philipp Stölzl und Calixto Bieito unter anderem am Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brüssel, dem Théâtre National de la Colline, an der Opéra de la Bastille in Paris, dem Teatre Romea in Barcelona, an der Oper Frankfurt, bei den Salzburger Festspielen und Osterfestspielen sowie dem Festival d`Aix-en-Provence.
Zuber war von 1998 bis 2000 als Tanz- und Musiktheaterdramaturg am Theater Basel sowie zwischen 2001 und 2006 als Dramaturg an der Staatsoper Hannover tätig. In Hannover rief er die Reihe „zeitoper“ ins Leben, die sich dem experimentellen Musiktheater widmet.
Von 1996 bis 2005 hatte Zuber einen Lehrauftrag im Fachbereich Szenografie an der Staatlichen Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe inne. Zwischen 2006 und 2011 arbeitete er als Leitender Dramaturg an der Staatsoper Stuttgart und steht zudem seit 2008 der Jungen Deutschen Philharmonie beratend zur Seite. |
Sophie de Lint, design. Operndirektorin Opernhaus Zürich

Per 1. November 2009 wird Sophie de Lint designierte Operndirektorin am Opernhaus Zürich, sie wird diese Funktion ab der Spielzeit 2012/13 antreten. Geboren 1974 in Rotterdam erlangte sie das Abitur in Genf. Parallel zum Schulbesuch absolvierte sie ein Violinstudium. An der Webster University in Genf schloss sie ein Studium in Business Administration ab. 1994-2001 arbeitete sie am Grand Théâtre de Genève als persönliche Referentin der Intendantin Renée Auphan. Ihr Aufgabenbereich umfasste das künstlerische Betriebsbüro und die Produktionsleitung. Anschliessend arbeitete sie als Regieassistentin an der Wiener Volksoper, im Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, an der Opéra de Marseille, dem New National Theater in Tokio und bei den Bayreuther Festspielen. 2002-2006 war sie als Künstlermanagerin bei Laurent Delage Artists Management in Wien tätig. 2006-2009 hat sie diese Tätigkeit als Künstlermanagerin bei Artists Management Zürich in einem erweiterten Rahmen fortgesetzt. |
Kammersängerin Gundula Janowitz

Gundula Janowitz was born in Berlin of Austrian descent. She completed her studies at the Academy of Music in Graz (Austria).
In 1959 Herbert von Karajan engaged her for the Vienna State Opera and she remained a member until 1990. In 1966 she became a permanent member of the Deutsche Oper Berlin and performed as guest artist at all the major opera houses of the world, including the Metropolitan, La Scala, the Teatro Colón (Buenos Aires), Covent Garden and L’Opéra, Paris (the Palais Garnier). She also performed at the Bayreuth, Salzburg, Glyndebourne, Edinburgh, Aix-en-Provence and Orange festivals.
In opera, she is best known for her interpretations of Mozart and Richard Strauss.
Miss Janowitz is well known as a recording artist of lieder, oratorio and opera with famous conductors such as Abbado, Bernstein, Böhm, Haitink, Jochum, von Karajan, Kempe, Kleiber, Knappertsbusch, Kubelik, Mehta, Richter and Szell.
Her greatest love is lieder. She has given more than 300 lieder recitals in the most important music centres of Europe, Japan and the United States. Her recording of all the Schubert songs for female voice has twice received the Deutscher Schallplattenpreis.
The title of ´Kammersängerin` was bestowed upon her in 1969 in Vienna and in 1974 in Berlin. She is Honorary Member of the Vienna State Opera and of the academy of music in Graz. In 2000, she was made an Honorary Member of the Royal Academy of Music in London. |

Er war Stipendiat der Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes und der Richard-Wagner-Stipendienstiftung. Promotion mit einer Studie zu Boris Blacher (Der gebrauchte Text, Stuttgart 2002). Habilitation 2008 (Weihe, Werkstatt, Wirklichkeit. &bdquoParsifal“ in Bayreuth 1882-1933, Kassel et al. 2009). Beide Monografien wurden mit Preisen ausgezeichnet. Lehraufträge an den Universitäten Bayreuth, Marburg, Wien und Zürich. Verantwortlicher Redakteur der Zeitschrift Opernwelt. Mitherausgeber des Jahrbuchs OPER und einer CD-Reihe. Radiosendungen für zahlreiche ARD-Anstalten; Fernsehmoderation für ARTE. Veröffentlichungen zur Musikgeschichte des 18. bis 20. Jahrhunderts, zu Theorie und Praxis des Gesanges, zur Librettogeschichte, zur Musikvermittlung und zum Thema Musik und Medien.
